Mugwumpin is a San Francisco theater and performance ensemble founded in 2004.  We make highly visual, viscerally performed work.  The now-ness of the audience experience remains at the heart of our pieces for both theater and non-theater spaces.

Mugwumpin is delighted to announce our residency at Pro Arts in Oakland this July and August. Working with an organization that champions new art practices is a fitting match for our collaborative, interdisciplinary process.

We could not be more excited to....

  • Launch the next big show. Our performers and designers will begin to research and develop our next production.
  • Remount an old favorite. We are bringing back our acclaimed 2014 hybrid of performance, photography and audience engagement, Luster, in collaboration with photographers Pak Han and Kegan Marling.
  • Connect with artists and audiences.

Or you can mail a check MADE OUT TO "INTERSECTION FOR THE ARTS", with "Mugwumpin" in the memo line. Mail it to Mugwumpin, 925 Mission Street, Suite 109, San Francisco, CA 94606.

  1. Donate frequent flyer miles! We frequently travel to bring our work elsewhere, or else bring inspiring artists from across America and the world to San Francisco. You can help these exchanges by putting your frequent flyers to use! Contact to find out more.
  2. Host us for a retreat! Mugwumpin has annual weekend retreats in order to plan for the year, and we also find it invaluable to get away to a place where we can simply focus on making great live art. We're awesome guests! If you've got a place somewhere within a few hours of the Bay Area, we'd be honored to populate it with art and love. Contact and let us know about it!
  3. Volunteer! From ushering to organizing to website upkeep, we can always use extra hands. We're small and scrappy, so it's a great way to see up close how everything happens, behind the scenes and artistically. Contact and we'll bring you aboard!
